Power steering system is a high pressure hydraulic system designed to provide power assist to the manual input of steering. As power steering fluid ages, it becomes oxidized and loses much of its ability to lubricate. When this occures, metal to metal wear takes place and in no time contaminated fluid is pumped through the system at high pressure. When left unserviced, this contaminated fluid begins to deteriorate and harden seals which cause leaks and eventually mechanical failure.
